Political Parties of Canada
Green
The Green Party's chief goals are the environment, healthcare and education. They are more worried about a sustainable economy than a competitive economy. (Basically the idea is, whats the use of having an economy like the United States which will collapse in 20 years?) The Green Party also believes in: Screening immigrants for criminal records. Electrical, hybrid and hydrogen fuel-cell cars are the way of the future. Stop subsidizing the oil industry with $5.9 billion in Canadian tax dollars every year. Better housing policies for the poor. Creating "Green Collar" jobs that help the environment AND boost the economy. Changing the voting system so it more accurately depicts Canadian political beliefs, instead of the one with most votes takes all. Give farmers a more fair share instead of big business taking the lion's share of the profits. Lower taxes on income, profit and investment, while raising taxes on cigarettes, pollution and waste. Invest in alternative energy. Stop sharing energy with the United States. Instead, build and subsidize more solar panels, wind farms and water-powered solutions.
NDP
The New Democratic Party follows the will of the people, believing that listening to the people is the most important part of politics. If the people want a better environment, healthcare, education and economy, its up to the NDP to figure out a way of balancing the best of all these. The NDP also believes in: Equal rights for gays and lesbians. Decriminalization of pot. Investing in alternative energy. Better housing policies for the poor. Raising the minimum wage. Cutting off trade with countries/companies that use sweatshops/slave labour. Cutting military spending. Increasing Peace Keeping operations. Standing up for Canadian sovereignity and human rights. Saying NO to the possibility of privatization. Continue subsidizing the oil industry until the time comes when hydrogen fuel-cell cars are more viable, but at the same time investing in creating an hydrogen fuel infrastructure across Canada so that Canadians can refuel easily. Maintain Canada's policy of being a voice of reason and peace in the world. The majority of Canadians don't believe in war.
Liberal
The Liberal Party has a history of being soft on big business, but at the same time standing up for the environment, healthcare and better education. The Liberal Party has a strong track record of boosting the economy. The Liberal Party also believes in: Equal rights for gays and lesbians. Decriminalization of pot. Investing in alternative energy. Better housing policies for the poor. Raising the minimum wage. Balancing the economy and the environment. Maintaining good relations with the United States, but at the same time saying NO to wars of aggression. The Liberals believe that war is always a possibility, but pre-emptive war such as the war in Iraq is simply a bully-tactic. Maintaining and increasing funding for education and healthcare, something to be proud of.
Conservative
The ultra right-wing Conservative Party is a relatively new party based upon the fragments of the Reform Party, the Canadian Alliance Party and the old Progressive Conservative Party. The ideas however have changed dramatically compared to the old PC party. Today, the Conservative Party stands for privatization. Namely: Privatize healthcare. Canadians should pay for healthcare. Turn hospitals into private companies and auction them off. Sell water right to American/international companies. Continue subsidizing the oil industry to the tune of $5.9 billion Canadian per year. Allow oil drilling in Canada's National Parks. Decrease non-European immigration. Get rid of special schools for immigrants and get rid of the welfare system. Raise taxes on the poor/middle-class while lowering taxes for the rich. Increase funding for the Canadian military. Saying YES to military aggression and sending Canadians overseas to fight and die for American oil exploitation. Raise the draft age to 39 and create new draft legislation so that women can now be drafted into the military. If the United States goes to war, we will go with them.
OverviewAdmittedly, the vast majority of Canadians fall into the "Green/NDP/Liberal" category when it comes to politics (roughly 75% of Canadians). The other 25% is the remnants of "Reform/Canadian Alliance/Progressive Conservative" which joined together to be called simply the Conservative Party, but is often called "The ConservaNAZI Party" because their right-wing values are borderline racist and discriminatory. One major party that is not even listed above is the Bloc Québécois. This is not a real national political party because they have no voters (and don't want any) outside of the province of Quebec. This page talks about national political parties, not provincial parties. In some ways it is amazing the Bloc Québécois has been allowed to even exist in terms of federal politics, considering that it has no interest in Canada. It is a "separatist party", with its only goal being to separate Quebec from the rest of Canada and make Quebec an independent country (but they still want to use Canadian currency and continue using our healthcare system and get handouts from Ottawa). Seriously, I think the people who first thought of creating the Bloc Québécois was high on something if they actually thought they could separate from the rest of Canada, but still get money from us. The Bloc Québécois also believes in anti-immigration, because they do not like non-French speakers in Quebec. The leaders of the Bloc Québécois have been known in the past to make rather racist/discriminatory comments.
