The Sex eZine - Older Women
Make way for the trophy boy toys as rich older women turn the tables...
A fourth wave of feminism has arrived, with a new twist - cash-rich, time-poor, middle-aged women seeking the love and attention of good-looking young men.
Rather than hanging around outside model agencies, or chatting up out-of-work actors working behind bars, these Wall Street Sugar Mamas are increasingly letting the web do the legwork for them.
Not for them a tiresome trawl through hundreds of adverts on sites linking older women and younger men - it is too time consuming.
In vogue are services such as Pocket Change, an upmarket website which sends out a weekly e-mail "detailing the most expensive goods and services" New York has to offer.
Offering everything from a toasted cheese sandwich costing $80 (£41) to $575 for a two-hour exotic dance lesson, for those with a six-figure bonus to fritter away the site is the destination. Its latest "service" is to put rich older women in touch with younger men. "Symbiosis has allowed ugly rich men to attract young, gorgeous, money-hungry women for centuries; it is now the women's turn," claims its publicity.
In order to do this, the company has set up a process of natural selection, where members of both sexes post mini-profiles, which are then rated by users of Pocket Change, with the top 20 of each gender then meeting at a speed-dating event.
Although the publicity surrounding this event is aimed at women favouring "leopard-print attire" who have amassed money through divorces - the words of Pocket Change, not those of Wall Street Life - the top-ranking women so far appear to be somewhat of a different breed.
Take the current top female - none gives her name, although we are allowed to know that she is 44 - who has an annual salary of $500,000 and does not have any assets from a divorce or a trust fund.
The same goes for the second highest-ranking woman, whose picture shows her in a sharp power suit with what would appear to be university degrees on the wall behind her. Her annual pay is apparently $400,000 with liquid assets of $9.25m. Not bad for 42.
To even qualify for the ranking process, women have to be over 35, and have a salary of more than $500,000 or assets of more than $4m. Men, however, simply have to be under 35 and submit five pictures for vetting by a "celebrity matchmaker". The majority purport to be models, but those men looking to be wooed include a 26-year-old derivatives trader and a Citigroup banker.
Pocket Change rather boldly refers to this novel form of match-making as "the fourth wave of feminism". In fact, it just looks like a role-reversal of what has happened on Wall Street and in the City of London for years - albeit now it is rich old women preying on attractive young men, rather than the other way around.
